Job offer: Assistant Financial Controller

If so, we are seeking to recruit an Assistant Financial Controller for one of our clients, a leading building contractor in Malta. What’s expected of you?

• Assist in overseeing, guiding, and developing the finance team, including training and mentorship of team members.
• Perform general accounting tasks, including data entry, and assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, reconciliations, and other financial reports.
• Support the compilation of budgets, financial reports, and statutory reports such as VAT returns, as required.
• Review and verify the monthly payroll calculation report.
• Assist in preparing the annual audit file, liaise with external auditors to ensure adherence to the audit timeline, and draft the EU taxonomy disclosure for the group’s annual consolidated financial statements.
• Aid in monitoring and managing cash resources to ensure commitments are met and coordinate with the Quantity Surveying team to track work progress.
• Identify and implement system improvements while addressing any issues that arise.
• Respond to miscellaneous inquiries from other departments within AX Group.
• Stay informed on relevant regulations and directives.
• Represent the Construction division and actively participate in the Group ESG committee, providing monthly progress reports to management on sustainability achievements.
• Perform other ad hoc duties as required.

 

What are you expected to bring?

• In possession/in the final stages of an accounting degree or equivalent
• Proven past experience in a similar role
• Fluency in English and Maltese
• Strong understanding of accounting and financial processes, financial reporting and regulatory requirements
• Solid knowledge of Excel
• Able to prioritise with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
